LEEMONS General Assembly Highlights – Besançon, May 21, 2025

The LEEMONS consortium gathered for its first in-person General Assembly in Besançon, hosted by FEMTO-ST (UMLP). This represented the first phase in the project’s mission to push silicon solar cell efficiency beyond its theoretical limits using low-energy electron multiplication.

🔍 Why it matters: This General Assembly marks a strategic transition point: it concludes the foundational phase of the LEEMONS project—finalizing management, governance, and communication frameworks—and initiates the beginning of the core experimental and testing phase. The project is now moving from setup to action 💪!

🆕 What’s new:

  • CSEM officially joined the consortium, taking over WP5 leadership with cutting-edge expertise in c-Si PV.
  • WP1 (SEGTON) delivered D1.1 (Project Management Plan) and D1.2 (Data Management Plan); financial reporting processes were clarified.
  • WP2 (CEA/UMLP) demonstrated early success in fabricating buried amorphous layers through hard masking and ion implantation calibration.
  • WP3 (ISC Konstanz & ROLTEC) advanced integration of the LEEMONS nanolayer into IBC-Zebra solar cells, including metallization strategies and contact resistivity optimization.
  • WP6 (SEGTON) launched the new LEEMONS website, visual identity, templates, and a newsletter campaign. A poster was accepted for EU PVSEC 2025.
  • 12 technical workshops fostered deep partner collaboration on masking, coating, SOI wafers, SIMS, and new synergies with CSEM.

🔮 Looking ahead:

  • WP2 (CEA/UMLP) will begin a new series of ion implantation trials through hard masks, targeting dose calibration, characterization (Haze, SIMS), and pattern fidelity.
  • WP3 (ISC Konstanz & ROLTEC) will conduct metallization refinement and mini-cell fabrication for the integration of the LEEMONS nanolayer into IBC-Zebra architectures.
  • WP5 (CSEM) will undergo equipment calibration to prepare for the first passivation campaign on 300mm and IBC-HJT cells.
  • M6 internal reviews are ongoing; first EC periodic reporting is planned for April 2026.
  • The next General Assembly will be hosted by CEA in Grenoble in October/November 2025.

🗓️ Project Duration: Nov 2024 – Oct 2027
