Revolutionizing Solar Efficiency with Nanotechnology

🔬 LEEMONS Project Launches to Boost Solar Cell Efficiency

We’re excited to announce the official launch of LEEMONS—a Horizon Europe-funded research project that aims to break the efficiency barrier of silicon solar cells.

Why it matters:
Traditional PV technologies are hitting a ceiling. Silicon cells are nearing their theoretical efficiency limit due to thermalization losses. LEEMONS introduces a radical new concept: low-energy electron multiplication, allowing high-energy electrons to generate several lower-energy ones, minimizing waste and boosting power output.

What’s new:

  • LEEMONS technology is compatible with 80–95% of existing PV manufacturing lines.
  • It focuses on real-world viability with low capital investment.
  • The consortium includes CEA, ISC Konstanz, UMLP, Roltec, and CSEM Neuchâtel, with SEGTON Advanced Technology coordinating.

Looking ahead:
Over the next three years, the team will develop and test proof-of-concept prototypes. If successful, LEEMONS could redefine solar efficiency for decades to come.

📅 Project Duration: Nov 2024 – Oct 20
